Introduction & Explanation

This project involved a full replaster and complete redecoration of a large period bedroom in Ramsgate. The walls had been stripped back to bare render and were in poor condition throughout, with uneven surfaces, old adhesive residue and patchy areas that needed to be properly prepared before any decoration could take place.

We carried out a full skim plaster across all walls including the chimney breast recesses and the bay window reveals, working carefully around the existing sash windows and period skirting boards which were kept in place throughout. The room was a generous size with a classic bay window frontage, requiring a thorough and methodical approach to ensure a consistent finish across every surface.

Once the plaster had fully dried and cured, we returned to carry out the full decoration. All walls were painted throughout in a clean sky blue, with ceilings finished in white and all woodwork including skirting boards, window frames and reveals painted to a sharp finish.

Outcome & Insights

The transformation from stripped and damaged walls to a freshly plastered and decorated room was significant. The finished bedroom is light, clean and move-in ready, with the bay window and period features now properly showcased by the fresh decoration around them.

Projects like this are a great example of why plastering and decorating work best when handled by the same team. Continuity between the two stages means any minor imperfections can be addressed before paint goes on, resulting in a far better final finish than when the trades are split between different contractors.
